Chanting the Vows

Chanting is part of Martin's daily routine. This is something we can take into our day while doing chores or to connect with an intention, if we wish.

Chanting Vows

Chanting is a very portable practice. Sometimes being aware of your breath isn't necessarily so portable. You're always breathing, but there may be plenty of other things to attend to. But sometimes—while cooking, for example—chanting gently while doing some domestic chores, one can be both focused on the action at hand, and somehow—especially if one chants in other moments and carries the associations of that—it's a way of entering into the sacred. I love to chant the Bodhisattva vows.

Countless are living beings, I vow to row them all to the further shore.
Countless are the poisons, I vow to purify them all.
Countless are the teachings, I vow to understand them all.
Countless are the blessings, I vow to bow my heart to them all.
I know the road is endless, I vow to walk it to the very end.
Though the road is endless, I vow to walk it to the very end.
